brought the little pieces of
wood?
What he was going to do with
them, there on the rock?
And why they were left?

 

Why do we gather buttons
and hub caps, cut class and
piles of books 
that we never read,
dried flowers and tools that
we didn't need,

 

What dreams did we leave?
What places did we
abandon?
Why?
